Continuous Sand Filter
Continuous Sand Filter as the name suggests is a continuous process of cleaning the Sand in
the Filter which is used to remove Suspended solids and reduce the backwash time since a
small amount of Sand is constantly cleaned during the service cycle. Ensuring uninterrupted
functioning, this unique and revolutionary method enables the filter to accept high polluted flow with high efficiency.
Continuous Sand Filter Working Principle
Continuous up-flow filter is dirtiest around the feed inlet in the lower part of the filter. The dirty sand is carried from the lower part of the filter through the air lift pump up to the sand washer in the upper part of the filter. The cleaned sand is then returned to the upper layer of the bed. The entire filter bed is thus constantly moving downwards. This mechanism ensures more effective filtration of influent with 10 times more dirt than any conventional filter .The Filtered water is then passed through Activated Carbon Filter and Chlorine Dosing to have clear potable water to be supplied through taps for drinking water purpose
Design Features
- Suitably designed for operating at atmospheric pressure
- Material of Construction is Mild Steel Plate. Filter shell is in mild steel plate and epoxy painted.
- Special graded sand is used as Filter media for the application
- Air lift pump to continuously clean the Sand Filter media and does not require back wash
- Used to remove Suspended particles upto 150 mg/l
- Continuous service Flow
- Continuous back wash
- Removes oil without mud balling effect and additional power consumption as well as fresh water consumption
Advantages
- Continuous operation
- Less manual supervision required
- High load capacity
- Small footprint
- Low energy consumption as the Pump required for Backwash is eliminated with smaller capacity pump for continuous washing of sand filter media
- Simple operation and maintance
- Compact system – space saving
- Simple construction
- Low cost
- Low power utilization
Applications
1. Raw water filtration for potable use, industrial process water
2. Cooling tower sidestream filtration and make up water
3. Recycling of pipe water in pulp and paper industry
4. Tertiary treatment of sewage
5. Treatment of industrial waste water
6. Filtration of water to remove mill scale
